Whether you are looking for a portable product featuring Windows 7 or on the fence about buying a notebook or netbook, Acer's Aspire 5532 notebook is an aggressively priced notebook that will turn many heads for the right reason.
Lets face it most of us out there are not hard core PC gamers or overclocking gurus of hardware. Most of us look for performance and reliablility for day to day activities such as checking email, viewing videos, doing school work and representing ourselves online in various forums and such. Acer has put a product out there for that very reason.
Why to buy?
Acer has positioned this notebook in the price range of most netbooks which do far less in scope of performance and flexibility. Add the sleek design and small form factor and you have a product designed for an on the go compute anywhere lifestyle. Its 3GB of RAM and use of a Single core processor gives you longer battery life, less heat and a quieter computing experience then its higher end competitors. Add the fact that it runs at 64bit and Windows 7 is backwards compatible with 32bit software and you have the best of both worlds, making booting up, accessing programs and shutting down as painless as possible.
Windows 7 runs full featured and lag free utilizing the beautiful 1366x768 Widescreen display. I have not tried it with a heavy resource hitting PC game as I am not a PC gamer by trade. However games like Runic Softwares Torchlight run on the system with full options without any slowdown. The 15.6in dispaly gives you plenty of realestate for working on anything from blogging to homework. The full size keyboard is responsive and the keys give good tactile feedback. The touch pad is placed at a good spot that will keep your hands off of it most of the time while you are trying to type. Aside from getting used to the touch pad it works fine after you learn how to finess it.
Why not to buy?
If you are a PC gamer looking for something on the go this probably isn't what you are after. It is only a single core processor. Those who like to listen to music will be disappointend by the poor quality speakers included in the package. They aren't even worth listening to. It does come with a mic and headphone jack so you can plug in your favorite head set or up to a reciever and have great quality audio still. The battery life is good running around 2hrs for me on a full charge but it doesn't give you what some netbooks will with battery time. If you are looking for ultra mobile long battery life this probably isn't your cup of tea. Also this product isn't designed to be a media center. It has no DVI or HDMI out no optical out either.
For slightly more cash it is easy to get a dual core PC with comparable specs and extra features like a mulit card reader, more USB ports, Built in web cam, built in bluetooth. It also has no ability to add a PC card to make it a more media friendly experience.
Who do I recommend this for?
If you are looking to jump into Windows 7 and don't want to spend alot of money, a parent buying a notebook for their child to use for school, not computer savy and want something unintimidating and easy to use, looking for a new PC to replace your out dated one or looking for something offering mobility without having a more limiting experience that a netbook offers, the Acer Aspire 5532 notebook is well worth a look. I bought mine at $329 from Best Buy in California.
Buyer Beware!
I always recommend not buying any retail store service contract unless you are in a situation where you know bad things can easily happen to the notebook. The Acer offers a easy method to make back-up DVD's so don't bother paying more for them.
